서울시가 세계 최초로 심야 자율주행 버스를 선보였습니다.
Seoul City has introduced the world's first late night self-driving bus.

심야 자율주행 버스 ‘심야 A21’은 일반 대중교통 운행 시간 이후 밤늦은 시간 유동인구가 많은 구간에 운영됩니다.
The late-night self-driving bus "Late Night A21" operates in a section with a lot of foot traffic late at night after general public transportation hours.

버스는 총 2대로 오후 11시 30분에 합정역과 동대문역에서 출발해 70분 간격으로 9.8km를 달립니다.
A total of two buses depart from Hapjeong Station and Dongdaemun Station at 11:30 p.m. and run 9.8 kilometers with 70 minute intervals.

일반 버스처럼 교통카드로 이용할 수 있고 당분간은 무료로 서비스가 제공됩니다.
You can use it with a transportation card like a regular bus, but the service is provided for free for the time being.

서울시는 내년 상반기 중으로 심야 자율주행 버스의 이용 요금을 유료화할 계획이라고 밝혔습니다.
Seoul City announced that it plans to charge fees for late-night self-driving buses in the first half of next year.

배경지식 Background

① 세계 최초 자율주행 대중교통
: 버스에 자율주행을 적용한 사례는 이번 서울시가 처음입니다. 미국에서는 야간에 자율주행택시(로보택시)가 운행된 사례가 있었습니다. 다수의 시민이 이용하는 대중교통의 기능으로 운행되는 것인 세계 최초인 셈입니다. 

① The world’s first self-driving public transportation
: This is the first time Seoul has applied autonomous driving to buses. In the United States, there was a case where an autonomous taxi (robotaxi) was operated at night. This is the first time in the world that it operates as a public transportation system used by a large number of citizens.

② ‘심야A21’는 어디를 순환할까?
: ‘심야A21’은 합정역~홍대입구역~신촌역~아현역~서대문역~세종로(교)~종로1가~종로5가~동대문역(흥인지문) 구간을 지납니다. 월요일부터 금요일까지 평일만 운영하며 오후 11시 30분 시작해 다음날 오전 5시 10분에 운행이 종료됩니다. 

② Where will ‘Late Night A21’ circulate?
: ‘Late Night A21’ passes through the sections of Hapjeong Station~Hongik University Station~Sinchon Station~Ahyeon Station~Seodaemun Station~Sejongno (bridge)~Jongno 1-ga~Jongno 5-ga~Dongdaemun Station (Heunginjimun). It operates only on weekdays, Monday through Friday, starting at 11:30 PM and ending at 5:10 AM the next day.
